Withdrawal Pains

I have been without TV for 3 whole days now. 3 WHOLE DAYS!!! I'm starting to hallucinate...(okay, not quite, but I can feel it coming!) Tuesday night when I got home and turned on the TV, the sattelite was searching for a signal. It had been raining that day, so I figured the weather was screwing with the system and popped in a DVD, sitting down to crochet with my cat.

Last night, I didn't get home until 11pm, after helping my friend pack up for her move. I turned on the TV just to see if the dish was working. It was still searching for a signal. But, it was late, so I turned off the TV, fed the cat and went to bed.

Today, still no signal. And yes, I paid my bill. I've checked the online manual, and none of the troubleshooting is helping. Everything is plugged in and connected, I've reset the receiver (numerous times...). I'm starting to wonder if the apartment managers screwed something up. The satellite dish is provided through the complex, and we dwellers have individual receivers and accounts. I am stymied...and I can't exactly run out and adjust the dish...well, especially since I have no idea where it is located! I'm about to give up and call customer service...but I want to make sure it's not something simple and easily fixed (ha!) before I call.

It is just way too quiet around here. (Which means none of the neighbors have their TVs on either...I'm thinking we are all screwed here...) And my next door neighbor always has her front door open in the evenings when I get home, with her TV almost always on. All is quiet from next door... (Yeah, I know, I should go ask her if she knows what's going on...but she's not in her living room, and I don't want to disturb her.) I'd call the apartment office, but they're not open anyway so it wouldn't do me any good.

Anyway...I suppose I shouldn't be so dependent on my TV for entertainment, but heck, I am paying for it, so I feel like I should watch enough to make it worth my while. And believe me...I do... I'm not totally proud of that, but it's the truth. Plus, I use it for background noise while I'm doing other stuff. I am rarely just sitting watching TV, without some kind of craft or something in my hands. And, it's not like I'm home (and awake) more than 4 hours each day. But wait - I don't need to justify it! I'm an adult. :)

I have digital cable, and every once in a while, I lose my signal. It's nothing short of hellacious...I'm very dependent on my shows!!

I thought it was rough staying at my friend's last night where there is no cable. But no TV at all? I would see that as a sign of the coming apocalypse.

I could live without TV for a few days. I think. The 'net, not so much.

(Investor training? Zzzzz.)

Well, I did call Directv last night, after getting offline and trying all the troubleshooting tricks. I was directed to my local service provider (the apartment complex has it contracted out). But, the local service guys were no longer open, so I'm planning to call them when I get home today (we're out of here 2 hours early today - woo hoo!!) if there's still no signal. Wish me luck!
