All that glitters

I made the above bracelet at Kristin's request. This has lobster clasps at both ends to attach to her medical ID bracelet. I don't know what she'll think about it, and this picture sucks (batteries ran out after the shot, so it's the best I could do at this point. But it looks sparkly here), but it gives the general idea. All she told me was that she wanted something neutral that would go with everything. This is what I came up with, but I will make her one that I think will be sturdier, since she wears it all the time and I'm not sure how long this will hold up. I'm not worried about the beads (all glass) so much as the copper colored craft wire that's made of some un-named metal.

Anyway, thanks for all of the business name suggestions! My favorite so far is "Tami's Treasures." But, if anyone has additional ideas, I'm still considering. I'm also wondering - do I need to file for Fictitious Business Name? Crap, another thing to look up. I'm deciding that the CA Business Portal is not very user-friendly. The IRS site is only slightly better.

Well, I'm catching a certain kitty odor...I think that's my cue to clean out the litter box right quick. Fun!

Yes, you have to file for a fictitious business name or DBA. Part of that process is that you will have to run an ad in a local newspaper as well.

fictitious business name is simple or was for me

Yay - I'm glad you like it Kristin. I hope it fits with the ID tag attached. I know you have tiny wrists though, so it might be big.

Now, the lobster clasps do come in silver. I just don't have any, and I happened to have those. All of my current silver clasps are the toggle variety. Don't worry, I'll be playing with these ideas.

Dagny - this whole process is driving me nuts...But, I have the forms needed for filing, just need to fill them out and get a cashier's check. That's not happening this weekend. I think I'm going to consult my high school buddy that is now a self-employed licensed tax preparer for some advice. I don't know if my "business" would qualify as a business or a hobby by IRS standards, or if that would change any operating requirements. I don't expect to make a huge profit off of anything, since I'll just be doing it on the side for fun and extra cash.

Argh.

I've been trying to come up with a catchy name, and of course I am not very clever, but something like "Assessories For You" or "Accessories by Ariaramat" or "Jewelry for You". The reason I think these make sense is because if someone goes on the internet looking for accessories for an outfit or jewelry they will google those words and your site should come up. I don't think people would google "Treasures" looking for jewelry (and you may want to expand and add crocheted things or felted hats or something, which is why I like using the word assessories over jewelry). Just my 2 cents...

Tami,
I would suggest NOT getting a business license and DBA and business account YET. I'll explain more to you later if you'd like, but right now, you don't need to be putting out any money on all that. Make your gorgeous jewelry, set up a Premium (not personal and not business) Pay Pal account in your name, come up with a catchy "etsy storefront" name - and see where it goes and how you like it.

I was going to discourage you from the business license and all that for starters and encourage you to wait also. I did my business for years with nothing. I dont have a business name and all that stuff since I move to san ramon, never re did anything. I only have been claiming a loss too since I can write off so much and miles. Wait and see what happens before you do all this. Ask Sona also, her link is on my blog and she has jewelry.

Bellakarma and Kristin - that was what I was thinking of doing too. I think it's better to see if I get any business before going through it all...and my tax preparing friend actually said the same thing.

Thanks for bearing with me everyone!
